All Saints Church Mudeford

All Saints Church was designed by architect John Loughborough Pearson.

It was the gift of Mortimer Ricardo of Bure Homage House.

The first service was in June 1869. The church was not dedicated to All Saints until 1931 by the Bishop of Winchester.

In 1957 it was licenced for Marriages. The Church is 60feet East to West and 22feet wide, there are 24 oak pews seating approx. 120 worshippers, extra seating is available in the Transept and Vestry Hall.

The West stained glass window was gifted as a memorial to Mortimer Ricardo in 1876, other windows including the ones behind the Altar are also dedicated to members of the Ricardo family. Beneath the West window are several brass plaques, many are to the Ricardo family, Mortimer Ricardo died in 1876 age 70.

The stone font was given in 1885 in memory of David Ricardo who died age 4, the Sunday School gave the brass ewer.

In 1912 the brass lectern was gifted in memory of Sibylla Mary Shrubb.

The Memorial Box, which is always filled with flowers, has above it two wooden plaques listing the fallen in the first and second World wars.

The piped organ was purchased in 1968 at a cost of £1,600 raised by donations.

In 1960 the first extension was planned to provide a room for the Sunday School and indoor toilets, the building work cost £2,300. In 1963 the central heating was installed. In 1977 the church was redecorated, the cost of £750 was raised from a Flower Festival to mark the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.

In 1985 a second extension was planned to provide a hall, kitchen and a toilet for the disabled. It was designed by Architect Richard Scott. Building work commenced in 1991 and the new Vestry Hall was opened by the Bishop of Southampton Emeritus Rev’d David Cartwright on the 6th May.

The Rose Window in memory of Michael Mugford was designed and made by Rita-Jean Peters a local artist specialising in stained glass.

The Altar rail was donated by Charles Peek in 1991 and dedicated to John Ellery for his contrbution in the building of the Vestry Hall

The Church Bell cast by J.Warner & Son is housed in the belfry above the side entrance.

The outside Notice Boards were donated by Ann Brown in memory of her late husband Roy.
